Don't recall seeing a TSB on the OLM, but I know that early on, there was a note explaining that in the absence of an available dexos oil, to fall back on the previously approved standard/synthetic specifications list. I do find it a bit confusing that both full and semi syn oils are dexos certified.... but that's a different subject, this new 'dexos' certification for GM vehicles.
There are as many debates as there are days on when it is best to switch to full synthetic or not to... but I often wonder, for those vehicles that are factory fill synthetic, do those rules not apply about seating the rings, etc?
lol long story short, it's up you you, Butters on what you choose to do, just use your best judgement.
I switched to full synthetic Amsoil 5W-30 Dexos certified at 2,500 miles. No issues with my motor and the intake and throttle body are clean as a whistle.
I varied my speed in the beginning, then opened it up around 800 miles at the track. Switched to Mobil 1 syn at my first oil change at 6700 miles.
I'll probably have around 600 miles on the car before the trip. Taking it to work everyday I'll break it in by varying the speeds as well. This seems to be the best way.
I looked at the post and thought I posted it. I just bought a new one and thinking of heading down there march 23 or so. I'll drive with you if you want. heading down to tampa and naples area too.
