  • Double cold air intake.

Ok, alot of you know that i'm pretty crazy when it comes to my car looking different than everyone else ( For example: my plast-dip experiment ). So I came up with the idea of a double cold air intake that I like. Notice how I said "I like" cause I dont really care if you like it or not. It would involve some work/fabrication of relocating the fuse box among other things in order to put another cold air intake box and filter in the place where the fuse box sits. Now I am going to do it reguardless of the amount of work involved so I wanted some guidelines on how I could set up the MAF sensor/vaccuum hose. here is the very poor rendering of how it might look like.

    My question is:
Could I relocate the MAF sensor closer to the throttle body and if so how far does it have to be away from it?
I'm thinking it would have to be a certain distance in order to properly gauge the air flow but I could be wrong. Same for the vaccuum hose.
Now odds are I would have someone with a better knowledge of this kind of thing build it for me so noone will have to worry about me rigging it up myself and have it look/work like s**t. So what are your thoughts?

How close to the throttle body does the Vararam Intake put the MAF sensor ?

So, it's a longer version of the Volant intake?

I can't help you with the building part of it, but I'd look in to the technical aspects of air flow, volume, pressure, etc., I don't know how much more function it would give you over a singular input.. If you're relying on engine vacuum to pull in the air through the system, as long as the existing system isn't choked up, I don't see it being more functional.. but, again, that's all determined by tube design, surface area of the filter, material types, bends and angle of bend, diameter of the pipe, etc. Having the MAF too close to the throttle blade would be my biggest worry. We don't have much distance between the TB and the front of the car like the 4th gens did.. Vararam has already been brought up, or I'd refer back to their findings on the weak MAFs and surging.

Aesthetically speaking however, I think it would look interesting for sure. Certainly something I don't normally see under the hood of a 5th gen...

Though, I think I've seen very similar on a Viper.

ADM performance did something like this on one of their cars. Turned out nice. There are pictures somewhere on Camaro5.com. Relocating that fuse box is more work than it looks like.

Here's a side-shot of my Vararam. Throttle-body on left, MAF sensor circled in yellow. Note that this is a V6, though.

Regarding the fuse-box relocate, I recently saw someone on C5 that put it in the trunk for some big build.

@ Humanwiki. I don't care if it makes anymore power because by my standards I have plenty and then some , my only concern is possibly losing some . I want it done mostly for the eye candy.

@ Tony. The trunk was where I was planning on putting it. I'll do a search and see if i can find it.

                      Sure you don't want 1000RWHP? ---

Ok so now that I've driven a 1000RWHP car it's a hand full to say the least. It's deffinity a thrill to drive, at 70mph you can move the throttle 1" and when it gets into boost it blows the drag radials off like your driving in the rain. The power is almost uncontrollable, but it's just what I wanted. I tend to take everything to the extreme. When you do feather the throttle and get it to the floor at about 100mph WOW it pins you to the seat and just keeps building power.

Haha I would get arrested. Not to mention I'm pretty sure I would not be able to handle all of it.
