  • Frozen Radio Display?

So this morning on my way to school I hooked up my phone to my car via USB cable. I had music playing and started navigating my playlists from the radio. The radio menu then froze and I could still use nav controls via my steering wheel. So I unhooked my phone and plugged it back in. The display on the radio now reads "Darien's IPhone" but never changes. It just sits there like I just plugged it in. Since the iPhone doesn't allow control directly from the phone when plugged in my IPhone music is rendered useless. However I can go through Pandora on my phone and get audio through my car since pandora doesn't use car controls. Whenever I unplug my phone it still reads that it's plugged in. I have restated my phone multiple times, tried plugging in a USB drive (still says my iPhone) and turned off the car completely etc.. still reads my phone is there. Anyone have any suggestions to fix it????

I've seen the freeze, but, not enough to know how to get it to go away on command. I just let the car sit for a bit and then it was ok. At the same time, my OnStar mirror lighting freaked out and would not turn off.

I keep a USB thumb drive full of music plugged in all the time. Occassionally the display will freeze but the music will still cycle through as normal. Unplugging the USB and turning the car off then back on usually clears the problem.

Logic lock. Try disconnecting the two battery cables (with the car off key out) and touching them together for ten second and then reattach them start the car and then try it.
If that doesn't work you need a software update or new multimedia module.

When I get out of school hopefully it will have fixed itself.

                  Is that even safe?

I am no electrical engineer but these cars have several different computers parts, capacitors, chips that store a minimal amount of energy to keep stored memory when the battery is disconnected for short term. Touching the positive to negative of the terminal, when they are disconnected from the battery, even with the key out of the ignitn, can't be healthy, let alone losing memory in other areas that you may not have wanted to lose. Ie window position, fuel mixture history, Tony, do you have an opinion on this? Can't you damage these chips by doing that?

Ok after letting it sit all day, everything is back to normal. It finally searched for devices again etc.. and got my phone and all functions work. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions everyone! I think it was Decepticons...

I would hope that they designed-in some current limiting to allow this.

They do, and that aforementioned solution I offered is straight from the mouth of TAC. it is the fix for logic lock on all GM vehicles including Cadillac that have FAR more electronics on them. And as for the window memory that is learned in the software contained in the BCM and PCM and DDM. don't forget what I do for a living please.

Should be. I don't know anyone that drives more than me and mine is still covered by the bumper-to-bumper.
