  • Need Advice - Road Trip

My family is leaving for a road trip to Myrtle Beach in 3 weeks for my little brother's baseball tournament (~1,900 miles round trip). I was hoping to avoid having to take the Camaro, but it looks like we need 2 cars. There are 5 of us going, plus all of the luggage, two bat bags, etc. and my parents GMC Terrain just won't fit us all comfortably. I just bought a 2000 Durango with 118,000 miles, but at this time I don't feel comfortable taking it on that long of a trip (AC doesn't work anyway and haven't had time to have it diagnosed).

My question is, and advice/tips, etc. on helping keep my car from getting too much damage? I've looked around at the Colgan or Stretch bras, but have read too many reviews where they end up scratching the paint anyways. Also, any good bug removers I can bring with to wash my car when we get there?

Haha! I don't have any more on hand. That being said, it performed very well, outside of the massive rains that peeled some of it, but once dried, it stuck fine. I would not hesitate to do it again. If you do it, use the tape horizontally, starting at the hood and work your way down the front. Overlap a bit, maybe 1/8th inch

Do you have any pictures of your car with it on? My dad is 100% Polish, and can find a way to use duct tape in every aspect of his life, so I think that he would be proud of me if I did this. Someone also mentioned to me using the blue painters tape and then put the stretch bra over it to hide the painters tape and keep the paint from being scratched from the bra.

I don't have a pic from before we left, this one is from the first stop, after the rain. I didn't do the horizontal tape on the corners by the marker lights, so i pulled that after it got wet and pulled back in the wind.

That's a long drive. Can't rent something that fits all of you? I drive our 2006 MDX MDX every other year to NJ/DE, this year we are driving to Grand Tetons, WY.

Clear bra all the way. I have full hood full doors full fenders and more done. You would not even know it's there. I have a guy that can do it at my shop or he can come to you if you have space for him to do it. Let me know would be happy to help.

I agree with the clear bra. It saved me from a serious garage door frame rash! It was worth every penny.

I just moved back up from Columbia, SC a year ago. I used to go to Myrtle Beach. Where are you staying? Is your son playing at the new fields .....I can't remember what famous baseball player built them. They are nice though.

We are staying at the Myrtlewood Villas. It's called the Ripken Experience (Cal and Billy Ripken). They have 7 fields that are all designed off of historic fields (Polo Grounds, Wrigley, etc), and they all have the synthetic field turf surface. It looks pretty cool.
