Sup guys, do the 5th gens need a PCM tune if you do a CAI... Or CAI and headers? Will the cars throw lean codes or other codes?

CAI wont need a tune, headers should have a tune, long tubes will throw O2 codes, which would get turned off in the tune.

You don't need a tune for most CAI's. I think Vararam used to have a CAI that required a tune but they don't make it anymore. ADM race may need a tune. Headers is like any other LS engine.

Check this thread for a posting of results of a comparison test of different CAI's.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my Track next fix.

Do you need it? That depends on a couple of things....

Do you want to maximize the gains? I picked up 32 rwhp & 38 rwtq with a Roto-Fab CAI & Kooks long tubes and hi-flow cats without a tune. I held off on a tune because I knew I was stuffing a cam in shortly there after.

Also, you WILL throw a SES light with any style of longtubes you roll with....by moving the sensor so far back in the header...the computer sees the sensor reading slow and throws a code. Only way to get the light to go away is via a tune.

If there's any other questions you have, don't hesistate to ask.

Okay. I have had a few modded 4th gens and we used to get PO430 (catalyst below threshold efficiency or something like that).

What do the L99 cars baseline at, 350rwhp? (on a Dynojet)

Expect to see anywhere in the 330- 345 range for an L99.

What is the going rate for 5th gen tunes, CAI + Exhaust? Are you guys doing complete exhaust, all 3"?

I paid $400 for a complete tune post cam swap.....I would assume a "bolt on" tune to be around $300. I paid $250 shipped for my Roto-Fab CAI, and $1300 shipped for my Kooks coated 1 7/8 LTs and hi flow cats. Multiple tests show there is no performance gain to be had with a cat back....you're only going to alter sound so I went with an axle back exhaust.

Hmm maybe you can explain some of the terms that 5th gen guys are using.

So you for example did longtubes + high flow cats. So from the cats to over the axle, you are running stock pipes? Then from the over the axle pipes you are running a set of performance mufflers?

                      Sorry bout that...you're right.

From the aftermarket cats to the mufflers ( over the axle ) is the OEM system. The OEM mufflers are cut back about 2" from the end and the aftermarket mufflers slip on.

                      Here's a couple of pics
