  • Anyone Have K&N CAI?

was wondering if anyone is running a K&N Typhoon CAI Part 69-4519TP. if so are you satisfied with it??
the reason i ask is gmpartsdirect has it on sale for 269 march madness sale and was thinking of ordering one. was going to get a Roto-Fab but if i buy the K&N i can save about 150.

As far as CAI's go this is data from Camaro5 that Ted Jannetty did in his independent test.

R2C on the bottom section of testing is the Rotofab, I believe.

    Hope this helps.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my Track next fix.

I have a K&N on my car, dont recall the part number. I like the sound alot and I gained 1mpg on the highway. As performance gains dont really know to be honest but I figure it couldnt of hurt. LOL Looks better than the stock airbox also. I can post a pic if you like.

save 150 over the 269 price? that seems high. Speed Inc has a host of choices, from the Rotofab to the Halltech to the AIRAID, those are in the 350-370 range. I know I don't have the SS, but I love my AIRAID. The Rotofab is an excellent choice, too. I think it boils down to what you expect out of the kit you buy. If it's maximum performance, then the K&N is leaving gains on the table. If it's a tradeoff between dollar amount at the sale price and performance, then the K&N would have a slight edge.

yes i do like the roto-fab. if i compare the k&n typhoon to the roto-fab with the polished stainless steel tubing it looks like i would save about 150.

i like the look of the polished tubes. although maybe the k&n typhoon doesnt perform as well because it has the ploished tube?? i've been told the polished tubes are more for looks but actually hinder the air intake because the tube heats up easier than the plastic??

just trying to get a decent intake for the least amount of $$.

ahhh, the stainless tube does explain the cost differential. There are indeed a few schools of thought on the plastic vs metal tubes. yes, the metal tubes can conduct more heat, but it will depend on what current conditions are when that would be a factor. when fast moving, and the air is moving through the tube at speed, ambient temps of the tube won't matter too much. it's at lower speeds/town driving/lots of stops that will show more impact of the higher ambient temps of the metal tube.

you might also ask one of the Speed Inc guys if they have any specials or sales going on for us.

The r2c us not rotofab, the rotofab is at the top. R2c is actually a local company, in Franklin park.

A lot of guys here really like the rotofab. Do check the price with speedinc, they recently had a sale on them that should have brought the price down to under 350.
