Sorry, I read that again and it's misleading. He wants to know about the performance of the CAI cold air system. I had an 06 Monte SS before my first 5th Gen. That's how I met him.

CAI's are a great way to increase HP and MPG at the same time. I would suggest them as one of the first mods on any car. Not only performance cars either. I had one on my 06 F-150 and it increased my MPG's to about 18.5 on the highway and not to mention the sound was awesome.

We do have an 05 Monte SS, but the 05's have the supercharged 3800, the 06's are the N/A 5.3L. A cold air intake is always a good first choice for mods, but as for one brand over another? Not sure there. Check out montecarloforums.net - there should be some guys that have the same year and have a CAI

I had an 03 and an 06. My 06 chewed it's trans up at 47000 miles, not a gear left in her, nothing but metal shavings in the pan when they dropped it.

Yeah, the trans is unfortunately the weak spot in the 06 and 07 SS'es One of the reasons that I didn't consider one of those when it was time for me to get another car (when I got the Camaro... I had a '97 GTP)
