  • Quick question

If I were to install my LT's and Catback, is it a given that I'll be throwing codes without a tune?

I bought the XS Power setup, it was a great deal. But they have no catalytic converters.

    It's a lock.

All LT setups move the rear O2 sensors so far downstream that they cause a code. It may not happen right away, but trust me...it's going to pop up sooner or later.

I see - so is a tune absolutely necessary to be emissions legal?

Correct, any code ( esp. an emissions ) code will result in a fail of the OBD system test.

well technically, any modification of the catalytic converter system is not legal, but a tune hides the fact that you're putting more harmful emissions into the air. I have heard though that you get a sound/hp improvement by just replacing the catalytic converters and they may not actually throw a code depending upon the brand like Solo, for example. While it's still a violation of federal law to remove/replace any cats that are functional, you won't have to do a tune to "hide" any emissions codes. There are 2 sets of O2 sensors I believe, one before the cats and one after. If the ratio of O2 (byproduct of the catalytic conversion process) before the cats and after the cats does not differ at a certain ratio, your car will throw a code.

With that said, enjoy your new set up, it will sound and perform a lot better than stock!
