  • Not sure what to think

I brought my car into the dealer to have a little issue checked out. I’ve noticed some annoying vibrations coming from the back of the car when I turn the stereo up. Granted, it happens when I listen to bass-heavy music, but my Jeep has never given me this issue; so I feel like my Camaro (with the Boston setup) shouldn’t have it either. I’m not sure where exactly it’s coming from, but it sounds to me like a panel may be loose. It’s a buzzing sound, and I’m sure it’s not a blown speaker, because it doesn’t buzz or rattle when I’m not listening to anything bass heavy (like rock). I notice that the rattle starts when I get the volume past 10 to 15, it varies on how severe it is and how often it happens.

Anyway, I brought it in, and the service guy sat in the car with me. I showed him the issue, and he said it was because of the song just having a lot of bass in it. To be sure, we went into the showroom to compare. It’s true, the other camaro didn’t rattle – but its EQ settings were all set at zero. So I go home with the assumption that I probably had the bass up too high (EQ was set at Treble-8, Mid-6, Bass-8). Driving home, I set the EQ flat at zero. The rattle was mostly gone, but it’s still there when I turn the volume up. The sound is lifeless now with everything at zero. Have any of you had this issue? I honestly feel like my dealer just doesn’t really want to look into it for me. It bugs the crap out of me, and the sound from this supposed ‘premium Boston acoustics’ setup is not ok. I'd really appreciate your guys' help here!

When I turn my radio up the Base is up the way I like and my mirror shakes so bad I cant see out the back.....

Well thats the way I wanted it so......

Lo frequencies cause vibrations and even the slightly less tighter bolt or screw will work loose at some point and rattle.

If you added a sub, you will likely get this without adding Dynamat or the equivalent.

well I'm using the stock boston setup. I don't want an additional sub, I just want mine to work haha. I found a thread on c5, I'm gonna see if I can narrow it down. If I can't figure it out, I think I might try another dealer who will actually take a look at it. any suggestions?

figured it out. It was the trunk rattling. I slipped a cloth over the seal, closed it, and it's finally gone. I'm gonna head out and get some sticky foam to use instead of a cloth - boo-ya achieved!

                      From a related joke...

Looks like you blew a seal...
Interesting towel fix. I have seen some people say that the speakers themselves resonate.

yeah I thought that might be the issue after seeing a video in a post on c5. it's definitely the trunk. I'm gonna try and find some kind of foam with adhesive to use instead of the towel.

Which dealer wouldn't address the issue? Should be instructive for all here... I assume you also escalated it to the Service Manager or GM before leaving?

Might try a dealer like Stasek in Wheeling that also has a body shop -- might be more experienced with resolving issues like that...
