  • Footwell lights causing TPMS error?

So last week I was filling up my tires with air but when I went to relearn the pressure in the tires the the system couldn't recognize the pressure and a light came on saying "service tire pressure monitor". Since I went in for my 5000 mile oil change I asked them about it and after checking it they said they could not find the problem. All the TPMS in the tires are working but its still throwing this code. After an hour of trying to fix it they came to the conclusion that my footwells lights I had installed are throwing the code. I find this hard to believe, because I haven't had a problem with any codes until now.

Do you think the dealership is just dicking me around? I had Pete do the install on the footwell lights but I haven't had a problem until now.

They are pulling something and not troubleshooting! I have had mine in for over a year now and switched tires and reset the TPMS 4 times and never had any codes!

They dont know what they are talking about. disconnect the lights and take it back to them and tell them to put a real mechanic on it

That makes absolutely no sense. They are just lazy. The footwell lighting which i tapped into the dome light has nothing to do with the TPMS. This is why i hate dealers. Their techs are a bunch of guys who plug in a computer and if it doesn't tell them what is wrong they are lost. Where is the old school mechanic these days?

Yeah I figured they couldn't figure out the problem so just blame it on something aftermarket. I told them it was tapped into the dome light but according to their "certified tech" thats what was throwing the error.

Anywho I've read an article saying If I reset it again and go to each tire and let out some air it will relearn it? I'm gunna have to try that tomorrow when I get some time.

Are they LED or CCFL? I can see inverters playing games with RF.

                I believe they are CCFL.

Hmm. There are lots of people with CCFL and I have not heard this before. Makes me think it's not likely. Can you pull the power just to check?

I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow. I'll try letting out the air to reset the sensors and if that doesn't work I'll take the lights out and see if thats fixes it.

Have you tried a fuse pull yet to reset the Computer?

You have to use LEDS its the only way to go with this stuff, they will never interfere with anything, now that I hear you have ccfl's it may be possible they can also interfere with your radio, it really does not have anything to do with the electrical connections made, its more of design problem with ccfl's and the way that they can interfere with transmitted signals. ITS NOT LIKELY BUT IT DOES SOMETIMES OCCUR

Alright everyone I got to look into it today and got it fixed with no problems. As everyone expected it wasn't the footwell lights *shakes fist angrily at dealership*. All I did was relearn the TPMS and then start with the drivers front wheel and bleed air out for about 5 seconds. The car will beep when it learns it. Go in a clockwise direction and do this to each tire and on the last tire it will beep twice. And just like magic, its fixed!

We should school my dealership on how to fix basic things!
