Does anyone know what's the thickness of the rotors for the 2ss brand new & what they can be machined to?

Also, I want to confirm that dot4 synthetic should be used for the brake fluid, right?

I'm changing the brakes front & rear with my dad so any info/tips would be appreciated
    Thanks

Pretty sure that they are made to be replaced (not enough meat to turn down when worn).

Usually when you turn down rotors the likelihood of them warping with heat increases even if they have some room to turn them down. I just replaced mine when I did the brake job.

I think this is what you are looking for. this is from ALLDATAdiy.com for my 2012 SS. I expect it will be the same for all 5th Gen SS's.
        - see attachment has the minimum thickness specs for your rotors
        - re Fluid spec: DOT 3 Hydraulic Brake Fluid (GM Part No. U.S. 88862806)

regarding advice.... I swapped out my OEM brake pads for a dustless ceramic pad at 23,000 miles. There was plenty of meat on the original pads... but the DUST was everywhere all the time. I did a lot of reading and research to determine what the best choice for a ceramic pad would be. Lots and lots of info on Camaro5. Unfortunately, the advice, suggestions, and information is ALL over the place. Most of it was anecdotal and subjective in my opinion. No real clear cut; everyone says: "DO THIS". I ultimately decided to go with EBC Red Stuff pads front and rear. Found them on Amazon. Summit Racing has good prices too.

            - EBC Brakes DP31788C Redstuff Ceramic Low Dust Brake Pad (REAR) $85
            - EBC Brakes DP31895C Redstuff Ceramic Low Dust Brake Pad (FRONT) $135

After the initial 1,000 miles or so... the dust is down to minimal levels. I am very very pleased with the outcome. There is still a little bit of dust, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to the OEM pads. I was getting tired of washing the rims all the time. I think the money was worth it.

If dust is an issue with you... then replace with ceramic pads. Just do your homework. [and yes, my recommendation is subjective & anecdotal too!]

Cut my stock rotors at 25K. I drag race a lot so I glazed them a bit from that.
