  • Dropped car off at BlackDog

Had the car brought over to black dog three days ago to start getting some work done on the maro! 3.91 gears, dss 1000hp axles and the finalization of the turbokir/injectors.. Hopefully she is done in time for some of the upcoming car shows. We talked slightly about a blower cam so I'll see where that leads. I also have a zl1 fuel pump and adm fpcm imstalled,
Is 700 wrhp acheivable with the turbonetics kit? I'm excited!! Keep you all updated.

What injectors are you running? That will be your limiter on power.

Plus again I will echo, I'd recommend to NOT put the 3.91 gear in there. The stock gear is just fine for a turbo car.

Fast 85 lb injectors, I bumped it up. I don't tend to drag the car as much as "spirited driving." I'll take your advice and not have them install the gears for now and see how I like it.

I had zero traction on the street with the stock gear. You put a 3.91 in and you're gonna be changing tires every couple of weeks while Hondas blow by you. This year I'm even thinking about swapping in an auto rear end.

          I had a l99 to start
I emailed black dog to just do the axles and hold out on the gears for now.

Isn't a 3.70 gear better for an automatic?

He's got a manual, but if staying NA I would say go for a 3.70 or 3.90.

The 2 reasons I say keep the stock 3.45 gears is...

              1) traction with the 3.45 gear is still difficult. So if you bump it to a 3.91, he'll never even be able to have fun with the power the turbo will make.

              2) turbos spool up due partially to engine load. That's why if you sit in neutral and rev the piss out of the car, it doesn't produce boost (except for neon SRT4'S lol)... so by putting a 3.91 in, it will run through the RPM's so quickly, thr turbo will struggle to get to full potential or even full boost. I had a buddy that put a 4.10 gear in his ls1 camaro. He never saw full boost because his gears became so short. Plus he was spinning all over the place.

So i was able to run a 10.99 @ 126 MPH with a 1.72 60ft... on stock gear. It fits nicely.

I think you mis understood my point. What I was wondering. If you were changing gears in a AUTOMATIC (NA) isn't a 3.70 gear a better choice than the 3.91.

Ah gotcha. I would say a 3.70 gear would be a good jump. A 3.91 is kinda drastic and would start taking you into the territory of battling traction.

I had a 3.45 gear and can light my tires up on nitto NT05R's after a burnout.

It really depends on many parameters. RWHP, Tire size and type. RPM's the car is running across the line ect.

Generally for a naturally aspirated LS3 street Camaro, we recommend 3.73s for an auto and 4.10s for the manual.

Stock ZL1s run 3.73s for manuals and 3.23s for autos and you cannot launch a stock Zl1 under power without sticky tires.
