  • Header advice

So im in the market for headers, most likely kooks, and was wondering if/when I get and install them should I do a dyno tune or just stay with my hand tuner (JRE tune)?
Don't want to spend extra if the two tunes are not too far off, plus I wouldn't mind keeping my warrant if possible.
    Thanks

    Dyno tune is best...

Any tune regardless of how or where will technically void your warranty. No way around that for the most part.

I only ask about the hand tuner because, as I was told and read that I can return to my original tune without the dealer tracing it

I did a ton of research and went back and forth between Kooks, to the cheap imports, to everything in between. I read ALL the reviews everywhere I could find them. I ended up deciding between the Texas Speed ones and the Stainless Works/Stainless Power headers. Both are great choices but I went with the SW/SP. These are Stainless Works "budget" line that they offer to compete with the knockoffs, and I could not be more impressed with the quality. I believe Stefano really liked them too. If you order from JDP Motorsports, you will get an INSANE deal. Tell them Mike Rogalinski (MikeRogs) from Camaro5 referred you. Every time I order from Tyler at JDP he absolutely blows everyone else's prices out of the water. I mean it's not even close.

I keep getting different opinions, so I think I may take it to either Nickey or Speed Inc. and just have what have in stock to install

Technically the dealer can tell if the tune has been adjusted at all. So returning it back to stock generally only works for first glance.

The thing about modding is like this...

If you have a suspension problem and you have headers on your car... they will most likely cover it under warranty. But if your motor blows and you have headers on it, then they will say due to the modifications they won't cover under warranty. Generally they won't honor warranty if it can be proven that the mod effected the part being covered. So it's a chance you take.

Syck is correct. The V8's have a "counter" that will show if the the tuning parameters were altered at all. Only the LLT's can be put back to stock without a trace.

I just had stainless power headers with high flow cats put in and you can't beat them for the price. But yes technically you are risking your warranty with the headers and tune.

Yup, and every time my car is at the dealer they laugh at how many times my computer has been flashed. It's epic every time

I read everything I could about Headers and this is what I kept coming back to. Plus, I have not seen a single person that bought these who regretted the decision. Whatever you decide on, you will love the difference.

I run a full Kook's system, headers, high flow cats and full 3" exhaust. I have had no issues and have been running them for 3 years. Plus I love the sound of the Kook's system but that is personal preference.

See I'm a 2" Texas Speed header kinda guy. Love mine and still so shiny! $480 on TSP website. Jason at TSP is always offering some great deals.

Plenty of folks on this forum that can help if something goes wrong on your car. Don't mind the WARRANTY!

Do the dyno tune locally. Reach out to club forum local vendors for pricing.

2" TSP - Everything IS bigger in Texas! I have heard good things about TSP Headers but I'm running KOOK's.

Decide on your budget and do some research on quality and most importantly fitment. There are some headers that are a PITA to install. Ask NicKey or Speed Inc. about that. Buy the best you can afford.

I can speak from experience on the difference of a hand tuner and dyno. When I got my first set of headers, I went with a hand tuner tune. While it seemed okay, my car was really rich at WOT and didn't the make power increase I thought it would. I went with a dyno tune, huge difference in how the car ran.

If your budget forces you to decide, I would go with a lesser priced header and spend the money on a dyno tune. But that's me.
