  • cai and exhaust

OK question..... I have a magnaflow axle back exhaust. I want to get the rotofab cai......i was told i would get max gains from a cat back exhaust system with the rotofab.....question is do i leave the exhaust i have and get the roto fab and call it good or would i notice that much of a difference from the rotofab with cat back or not??

You wouldn't notice much of a difference with a cat-back. Maybe if you added headers but with just the roto-fab the axle back will be fine. The stock system flows pretty well. It's just a matter of sound. I'm sure Larry can chime in and answer your question better than I can.

please keep the answers coming......i was told that the cat back will net me 25hp and i know the roto fab will net 16 at the wheels with 10rwt. i would prefer to just do the cai since i already spent the money on the exhaust and i like the sound. I just dont want to get stuck with just doing the cai and notice a small difference because the cai isnt cheap either.

On other cars you may see 25 hp, but with the Camaro it's more like 5-8. The factory system is very efficient.

I don't think you're going to see 25hp from a cat back. Like Dark said, the OEM system flows pretty good, and what you're really changing is the the sound. Where you will pick up some serious gains is with a set of long tube headers.

The CAI will net you something, and alter the WOT sounds as well. I would throw the CAI on and leave the axle back in place.

darkss ok in your sig it says you did the rotofab and tune stock exhaust then? and also you did those two things and you gained approx 2 tenths from factory quarter?....if so that seems like alot of money spent for very little time forgive me because im a noob with this, but how much faster to 2 tenths really feel? are you able to break the rear tires loose without dumping the clutch? are you pinned to the seat under full acceleration?

The catbacks or axles backs are worth min. power as Dan noted. The RotoFab CAI has worked well for us both NA and FI. We plan to test an R2C soon as well.

I would invest in headers over an exhaust myself.
