  • TSP header installation questions!

Hello Im looking to buy the TSP headers 1 7/8" has anyone installed these and have feedback? Also, for Kane county I have to pass an emission test if I buy the cat extensions would that be sufficient i passing the test or do I need to change out my 02 sensors?

Any comments are greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have the 2'' TSP headers installed and love them. No cats, won't have emissions for a few years out, will think of cats then. But, my understanding with cats is that you would have no problems with emissions test, as long as your dashboard is not lit up like a xmas tree and no codes are going off. A tune would help this, if that comes up, which mine did that first day. O2 sensors in the rear were tied back for me and I had to take AFM off so I had to get a tune.

Ask for Jason at TSP and he will take good care of you.

Check out my car's install and other questions that came up for little88.

Okay thank you very much for all of that information!!!! definetly persuaded me to go with TSP. Your car sounds amazing, are you aware of any difference in sound/install between 1 7/8 and 2"?

Installing headers really isnt bad on 5th gen. I definitely recommend at least 2 people doing it. These things can be awkward and heavy, so if you havent done it before then have support.

Being as it will be your first time... remove all spark plugs as i have seen what happens if you arent sure how to do it and hitting a spark plug will cause a mis-fire lol Also you remove the bolt from the steering knuckle to give you more room to play.

Take your time and dont get frustrated, it can be done just takes good angles lol

You should most definitely get a tune.

The tune is what will take care of your emmission and your rear o2's. They are basically not needed after a tune.

A check engine light will come on if you DONT get a tune. Another reason to get one for sure.

sent from my galaxy s3. that would explain the errors.

I had headers installed last week. Save some money. Its suppose to pass without them. You get better sound without the cats. On the downside you get some fumes if you run it in a garage and an occasional pop out the exhaust on downshifting.....which sounds cool. :-) I'll worry about the cats if it doesn't pass....but until then I am happy. I got the tune with the install. That will make you happy too.

speed inc has been very popluar, But lately Nickey Chicago has been putting out some good products and numbers.

That will be up to you. You should be in good hands regardless of who you choose.

haha i know for a face that cats are not needed - nor are rear o2 sensors as i have not had them on my car car for over 3 years.

"technically" Nickey is correct as the cats would be NEEDED to pass emmisions the right way.

But with a few tuning tricks you can tell the computer to pass emmisions. Next year i will be taking my first emmisions test with my camaro... I will be making over 1000whp, have no cats at all, and i still will pass emmisions with flying colors. according to the way they check it that is.

sure is. Daily driving i will keep her set around 700-800whp most likely. That still will basically be useless on the street. But i will have a track setup purely for race gas and 20-22psi of boost out my twin 62mm turbos.

but not to jack the thread, you will receive a "passing" score for emmisions either way. Thats all that matters at the end of the day.
