So I started this thread else where, and I thought I would share the experience with my C5G members.
After blowing my motor at the race track a few weeks ago, I was now faced with the decision of how I would need to build my motor. The 2 options are...
1.) repair the broken parts and go back to stock components
or
2.) building it to be a monster...
anyone that knows me will be able to say which option i decided on.
But what this means is the car will be out of commission for a long time as I will be saving up for only the right parts and make sure this thing is built 100% correctly to take the abuse I will be throwing at it.
So I will use this thread for specific updates to the progress of just the motor build. So here are my goals and what components I will be using to hit my goals... hopefully...
GOALs: 1000whp - 9.99 1/4 mile pass - 138mph trap speed
MOTOR BUILD PARTS: stock displacement 376ci
*Stock LS3 crank and stroke
*WEISCO PISTONS -11cc DISH 4.07in bore - 9.5:1 compression
*CALLIE COMPSTART I-BEAM RODS
*CLEVITE BEARINGS ALL AROUND
*ARP STUDS ALL AROUND
*CUSTOM TURBO CAM GRIND - FROM COMP CAMS (still deciding on specs)
*ALL SUPPORTING VALVETRAIN UPGRADS, SPRINGS, PUSHRODS, ROCKERS, ETC(exact parts still waiting on cam choice and spec)
*COMETIC MLS HEADGASKET - .051 thickness
*STOCK INTAKE MANIFOLD
I will add and update list and progress goes on.
Yes i could go all out and get stroked motor but I have several reasons on why to stay stock displacement.
*I want to try to be one of the first manual 5th gens to run a 9 second pass - stock displacement
*fastest stock displacement manual 5th gen - 10.28
*there are very few if any reported 5th gens producing 1000whp with stock displacement. Even though its been done with other LSx platforms... i want to make it happen
*I like to prove what stocks parts can do. So by keeping the stock manifold, heads, crank, and block... i can really see what these parts can do.
So with this thread i will also be thinking "out loud" of reason why i chose different setups or parts over others and every please feel free to chime in.
