  • A6 transmission removal

Does anyone know where I can find a write up or give me an advice on how to remove my A6 trans? I took out 7 bolts disconnected the driveshaft, all wires and shifter. I can't get it to drop down. Thanks

Did you remove the torque converter bolts?

No I already have a stall. The trans blew out 4-6. I guess the stock tans doesn't last long when you're over 600 RWHP and beating on it all the time lol

The trick is an trans cooler if you didnt have one already. That will help it last longer. Also firming up the shifts as much as possible too.

But jeez, to take out 4-6 is pretty impressive lol

            Been to the track yet?

I had a cooler it didn't help. It wouldn't have blow if I didn't have that damn Mustang next to me lol. I've been working way too much to make it to the track. I hope to get out soon.

Yeah same thing happened to me, 550hp blew the Trans. I had circle D transmissions in Texas install a billet Trans with a stall. Jeremy is right about the Trans cooler, that was my case (overheated). Circle D installed a cooler from a super duty pickup truck, now it barely runs over 170dig. Who is rebuilding your Trans?

Just budget for a trans cooler and it will prolong the destruction if you get a proper sized one ;-)

I had a trans cooler and it still blew. Fast Motorsports in woodstock is rebuilding it. They do the same rebuild as circle d plus a few other upgrades they don't do.

What trans cooler did you have in there? and what type of temps were you hitting?

The 6L80E in the 5th Gen and C6 is a finicky little b*tch for sure. Many people burn them up all in the same way and with the same power levels.. It's something I'm digging in to since my Vette is an A6 as well. Even with the lighter load I place on it if I modded it, it's still going to be the weak spot.

There is no helping a stock A6. Once you get about 550rwhp with the weight of a Camaro the clutched need to upgraded. A good trans tune is your best precaution. The 6L80 will tear itself apart without any torque management though.

+1, that's all the stock A6 can take in heavy cars like ours. Vettes can push it more but they are 500 lbs lighter.
