ehhhh yes and no... My setup is very "different" so normal rules dont apply for me because of my turbos being so far back in the exhaust. I have to monitor back pressure and flow differently.

But you wouldnt see as much of a gain as an N/A car per say. Because you got the boost from the turbo basically pushing the exhaust out from the combustion chamber, so bigger isnt always betters.

Heat before the turbos is good as that increases velocity of the air causing quicker spool. But also sometimes smaller diameter pping allows for quicker air flow too.

anything after the turbo though... bigger is always better. The less resistance after the turbo the better, but before is very tricky. I honestly would say that putting headers on my car might pick up 5-10hp maybe on a cool day.

I have Dynatech SuperMaxx SS Long Tube Headers with high flow cats and had them ceramic coated and they have been great. I think Speed Inc. sales them.

ARH makes great headers, but they are quite expensive.

I had Doug Thorley Tri Y headers on mine and they looked just as shiny the day I sold the car as the day they went on.

Is there really a difference in power between the 1 7/8" and the 2"? IF they are the same price is one better than the other? I wouldn't think so.

I think I read somewhere the more modded your car is the bigger the primaries. It seems like the 2in are really popular with supercharged motors. The 1 7/8 seem to get bought the most tho. I'm not sure about the 1 3/4.

You are right Steve. Don't go 2" unless you are or plan to be boosted or do a ton of motorwork. Otherwise you will lose low end power and TQ.

Sorry Syck but there is no loss in Tq or Hp with go with 2" over the 1 7/8 you actually gain a few up top with the 2". It's also a good foundation and you can grow into it if you go FI in the future or start to add cubes.

Just speaking from what I have seen. I had a buddy that had a TA. Went from 1 3/4to a 2 inch. Lost a bunch of low end power. Yes he picked up 1whp. But that was only 200rpm before redline. The rest of his power band he was under. Put the 1 7/8 back on and got everything back.

To me this is a good article to read over to get a better understanding of the way headers work.

Header Basics - How Headers Contribute to Horsepower - Car Craft Magazine

it does get very technical, but hopefully this will help some figure out which route or brand to go based off of their goals.

I have a cam/converter/exhaust/L99 friend in FL, he said his car lost low end with 2.00 headers. He's Mike Meeks on Camaro5, he also owns that white 7 second race car.

Well how much did he loose? He just said he lost it? His et's went down?

I've experienced the same thing SYCK and PSJ describe myself with my '01 Z28 cutouts open vs. closed - reduction in back pressure typically results in a slight loss in low end torque in exchange for slightly higher peak numbers. While it wasn't substantial, it was noticeable.

I'll see if I can dig up my old dyno sheets on one of my 3 external HD's
