  • Headers on a ZL 1

has anyone put headers on a ZL1 yet?
I was looking at 2" ones from Texas Speed, hard to beat the price $500 for stainless.

It's no different than an SS bud, you can't beat that price for a 2" which you would benefit from that's for sure. I'd get them coated though simply because your s/c naturally and your enemy is heat! Just my .2

If you get a set with cats on them (custom, etc), be aware that there may still be an issue with aftermarket cats not holding up to S/C 6.2L with certain tunes. Plenty of people have melted the material, I even had mine start to go. Just do some research over on Camaro5 about it -- you'll find plenty of information.

Just something to think about if you're going to have headers + hi-flo on a blown 6.2L

I agree with both litle and wiki.

Any F/I application dislikes cats. So be aware of that going into it. Opening the exhaust like that will be great for the SC ad reduce back pressure greatly.

sent from my galaxy s3. that would explain the errors.

There is a company that's working on a cat that's designed around these engines and forced induction, but I didn't follow it to the point of getting actual fabricated production pieces and costs -- I seem to remember them being more expensive than normal, but, you don't want a cat melting on you.. A couple of the guys over there seem to have blown their motors over it - but, I would have thought you'd be able to tell that the engine was running weird if it couldn't exhale correctly.

I don't plan on putting cats back on it.
I live far enough west that we don't get tested.
I was really looking to see if anyone here has used TSP headers and had an opinion good or bad ?
I plan on ceramic coating them also if anyone has advise on somewhere to have that done at?
            Thanks

If it gets very melted and broken down you would. But what happens is it only creates slight back pressure increase at cruising speeds. But when boosting because of the extra back pressure, thats when it will be really noticable and you will see boost increase. Driving normally it wont hurt too much, its just when you hit boost.

Thats where you run lean depending on the tune. and also it will be extremely hot causing detonation.

i cant remember the last time i have had cats on a car i owned lol.

i would say give em a shot for the price. As long as they are stainless, any header is going to be more beneficial than stock manifold. Especially going to a 2". That will really let her breath. Get an intake too if you dont have one already.

I have TSP headers on my C6 and they are fine. I had Stainless Works headers on my 5th gen and there really is no difference. A header is a header and the quality of the TSP is good. My nephew had TSP headers on his 4th gen and had no problem getting into single digits with them.

My TSP headers are mild steel and came already coated, my SW headers were stainless and I had them coated. LoKo in Alsip did it and I recommend them, they did good work.

You'll be good with the TSP's and 2" I've heard of no issues and if you did they have good customer service.

That's good that you won't go with cats, cause were here for to make the power lol I've never ran cats either pointless with headers lol.

Lo-ko in Alsip is good and I just saw them at the race expo too.
