  • Belly Pan for the SS

Thought I would post one of my projects that I've been working on over the Winter. There's been debate as the the effectiveness of a belly pan on the SS, with many saying without the ZL1 type hood engine heat would be a problem. I did some research and found a company that did wind tunnel testing on a Corvette with their belly pan. It proved that a pan is very effective for increasing down force, and combined with a front splitter is even better. So, I decided to make one based off the Vette design suited for the SS. FYI, the ZL1 belly pan does not fit the SS unless you have the ZL1 front facia.

If you're interested on how this progressed, here's the link on C5 with more of the story. ZL1 belly pan on a SS - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums - Camaro5.com

For now, here's the mounted pan on my car. The NACA ducts still have to be made and installed. This setup should work well with my new hood from Pete.

LOL, I'm sure we could work something out Pete. I'm still looking to get my hands on that MPD1 dove tail spoiler. Know anyone that paints? BTW, any idea when he'll be making those again?

I just bought the fiberglass kit tonight to make my first NACA duct from my mold plug. Going to try and do that this weekend to finish this sucker. I've spent a lot of time perfecting the fit and design. Time to move onto other projects.

Hey [name], your Camaro SS looks great. What drop is that 1.0 or 1.4?

I think I'm going to buy a Heritage grill finally too.

I went 1 inch on coilovers. With the tires i lost another quarter. My splitter is 5-1/2 from the ground. The cats are even lower so getting it on/off my trailer is a challenge.

I'll keep an eye on yours when it gets done and meet up with you. I'll show you the finished brake ducts. We'll see how all that works this weekend at Heidts. Just finished putting titanium backer plates on the brakes pads. I'm really anxious to see if all this pays off.

                        So far this Winter:
                        Pete's new hood
                        belly pan
                        brake ducts
                        Pfadt ZL1 spec sways
                        Pfadt's new coilovers
                        titanium brake pad plates
                        1LE strut bar
                        1LE axles
                        ZL1 hubs

                        And oh yeah, air bags
