  • Trailing arms and bushings!

Ok so with my future (depending on tax return) mods I want to do. I have a feeling I will have to do something about wheel hop.

I have read a lot of threads on C5 that people are getting away with just trailing arms and bushings.

How hard would it be to do them myself? I am going to see how much extra the shop will charge me to do them but was just wondering if anyone did them themselves.

I did them in about 1 hour and it is rather easy. You have to build the tool to remove the outside lower bushings (again easy and cheap). It's easy and I can walk you through it. To remove the RTAs, you remove 2 bolts. Removing the bushings takes a bit of elbow grease and patience but it is not difficult. Get the RTAs with and replacement lower bushings as the OEM bushings contribute to wheel hop.

I also added sway bars from and rear. I have no wheel hop. I installed all BMR products and it is really quite simple even without a lift (just used jack stands).

I used a 2 1/8 hole saw with a 6 inch 3/8 bolt. Add 4 or 5 washers to the outside. Insert the bolt through the bushing from the inside (differential side) and put a nut on it. Tighten the nut as far as you can. The put a 1 inch sleave over the bolt and a washer and a nut. Continue to tighten and the bushing will move out into the hole saw. Just stop when the bolt gets really tight or you'll break the bolt. Wait a few minutes and then tighten again. Do this a couple of times and the bushing will move into the hole saw. There is a link to a video that I found that demonstrates it. Here is the link. It works great for a hard bushing to remove. Just be patient and don't over tighten or the bolt will break. I broke 2 of them!
