  • Power loss after cheap gas.

So i ran out of gas, and had to put in a gallon of cheap gas to get to the gas station. I could feel the performance slip of the gas, and proceeded to fill up with premium again. Im not sure but it does not seem to have the same performance. Could this be in my head, or did putting a gallon of cheap gas mess something up?

It is possible that by putting lower octane fuel you will notice poor mileage and lack of performance, but you should be good after filling up with premium. It wont damage anything. But your computer will adjust for the difference. There is the optional fuse pull to help your computer recalibrate to the higher octane fuel if you'd like. But nothing is permanently damaged.

sent from my galaxy s3. that would explain the errors.

Once you drop to the low octane fuel table, run a full tank of premium. Pull the #5 and #20 fuses and let it sit over night . You'll be reset to the higher octane table.

        Definitely do what Blackhawk suggests.

I highly doubt a gallon of cheap gas made that much of a effect. Doesnt seem like enough for the computer to even make adjustments for it to compensate that quick.

Agreed! That whole fuse pull is kinda funny.

I partially agree, but it doesnt really come down to the amount of gas that was put in but more of the fact of how many miles were driven after the gas was put in. If you fill your tank up with 87 octane and just let it idle, nothing will really happen. But if you put a gallon in and drive 20 miles, then the computer will compensate for the difference. I feel the computer would be able to adjust back on its own for the limited amount of driving that was done but the fuse pull is the failsafe way just to make sure.

The low-octane table exists on the V8.

Funny... I was just goiing to post up about a fuel question... Do you V8er's all use premium? A coworker of mine just bought a 2010 2SS and asked me if he could use anything besides premium. Told him I would post the question on the site. (He will be joining soon) Thoughts?

Only 1 time did I knowingly use 87/89 in the car and it was because I was coasting on fumes in the backwoods and I only put in just enough to limp to an actual gas station.. and by limp, I mean, very slow starts, not going over 3000 RPM and nothing more than 1/2 throttle. I only put in 1-2 gallons worth and then did a full fill with 93 oct.

I went that entire tank being nice with the car and then did a fuse pull when I could, before getting in to the engine again.

Don't know if my being tuned makes a difference on table usage, but I had to be extra careful with it since I had FI and a 91 min tune.

I have been running 87 in the camaro since November. It wont harm anything in my opinion and from what I read, besides power output. Doing a fuse pull takes a few seconds and I would recommend after next fill up.

yeah, it wont harm anything at all. Our computers have it programmed in to correct accordingly. For some reason though it is harder for the computers to go from 87 back up to 93. The computer could do it over time but the fuse pull just speeds up the process.

OK,,,, where are the fuses located. Only recently did i discover the cars battery is in the trunk and there is no spare, or jack, just a compressor with fix a flat.......LOL
