  • up next... water/meth injection

so even though i ran my best time yesterday at the track. My data logger revealed a very big problem.

    high IAT...

the first couple of runs weren't too bad. hovering aroun 170-180 in the top of 3rd and 4th gear.

but as the ambient air temps increased i was running into a wall. My later passes i was reaching well over 200 degrees for my IAT.

so not only does the car make less power due to the hotter air, but our computers are designed to pull timing at that point to avoid detonation. Which is a good thing to save my engine but at the same time means i am losing power as well.

Soooo i am in the market for a water/meth injection kit. The shop that did the work on my car just installed a meth kit onto a new s65 AMG mercedes because they naturally run very hot. With just the kit alone and no other change he was able to bring WOT temps from 180-190 down to 115. He logged that as soon as 3 lbs of boost popped on the kit would kick in and just hold the temp right at 115. No matter how many passes he did.

So i am just looking for some feedback from any members that have installed a meth kit on their camaros.

i am leaning toward the AEM kit, as that was used on the AMG and i really like the quality of work, but was curious on what experiences others have had with kits.

I consider IAT's over 150F to be high, and 200F to be super crazy high.

I have the AEM kit, 4 gallon tank in the trunk and controller. Works great! When you log you can see the IAT drop huge.

I will have to check my logs, I can't remember off the top of my head.

Whenever ever you get a chance. I'm thinking of running 2 of their 350hp nozzles. That should be enough I'm hoping. I'm just using the windshield reservoir cuz I never use it haha.
It actually has the original fluid still from the day I bought it.

Syck why not inter cooler? With a good sized Icooler you might not need to spray it. I just think its safer because its more fail safe. I've seen it happen where one has leaked and not enough made it to the engine and ring land was gone! Another instance the pump failed and that motor ended up like Stacy Petterson! Lol

I have been running this Turbo setup for almost 2 years now with the way it sits. So if the kit fails I will still be fine.

I will not be tuning my car any differently after installing the Meth. It will strictly be for cooling. My most recent tune with Jim at speed I still produced 565whp/560tq with these high of intake temps. So no need to re run piping and get the car retuned if I can lower the temps with Meth. And if it fails I'm right back in the same situation I am in now.

I daily drive my car so I only really worry about these temps at the track. If I boost once or twice on the street it never gets that high. So we are gonna see how low I can get the temps by the Meth only. And if it fails Ill just run what I'm running.

An intercooler might be in the plans for winter but still I don't think that will drop my temps 100 degrees. I would still be needing Meth to get the temps where I want. But I do understand your point and there might be one in the future. We just want to see what we can get with Meth alone.

And now my car has to be fast because I have 2 Corvette parts on it! An LS9 MAP sensor and a 2000 Corvette IAT sensor. ;-)

What does the Vette IAT sensor do different?
