  • 4l80 installed

Finally, after just over 6 weeks waiting for all my parts to arrive, I installed a 4l80e automatic trans into my original M6 car. I also installed a FTI Billet 3400 converter w/lock up. This swap took a FULL 2 days working by myself with the car on jackstands. I am using an Optishift trans controller, which I must say, is very user friendly and infinitely adjustable.

All I can say is why didnt I do this sooner!!! Car is a dream to drive. The car turns 2000 RPM @ 60 mph locked up in 4th with my 3.70 gears, so highway drivability is unaffected. The car will blow the tires off on the 1-2 shift at anything aove 1/2 throttle. The stall, honestly feels almost stock. You can tell its there, but very drivable. No more lugging and bucking at low rpms because of the cam.. the stall takes care of that.

I am still fine tuning the tune. Small things like removing converter lock up in 3rd gear and I also may bump the full throttle shift points down a few hundred RPM.. That may have to wait for some cooler weather or even a trip to the track...

I am also showing a check engine light, but I am sure that is because I still have the M6 harness present and unplugged. I also still have the clutch pedal installed so I can defeat the clutch pedal interlock and start the car. I will be goling back to Speed Inc for a retune to eliminate the M6 codes. I am also going to install a ZL1 fuel pump and up the boost from 6psi to 8 or so...

My short and cryptic "I'm eating and on phone" way of saying, it's nice to have someone relatively local with a high HP stick car that has converted to an automatic so I have someone to talk to should the need arise without needing to go through the "other site" and deal with people over there that are a long distance away...

Thanks guys... The conversion was pretty straight forward. There is some minor cutting involved, but nothing major. I went with the stock shifter assembly,so the install does appear factory..

121 should be good for high-mid 11. Procharger, right?
