  • G6X3 Cam Is In

I finally got around to modding my car. I had Libertyville Chevrolet install Kooks headers, Kooks 3" Catback, SLP underdrive pulley, VMAX throttle body, Elite engineering catch can, and the G6X3 Cam package from LG motorsports. Already had a Roto Fab CAI.

Let me say that the car sounds much better. Kevin and Eric at Libertyville Chevrolet are top notch.

This is the first car that i have ever cammed and i must say it sounds great. however i need some input from some of you mod crazy guys. i did a lot of searching for cams before i decided on the G6X3. With the supporting mods i have the G6X3 was getting the lowest number of 460 hp to the wheels according to threads on the big camaro forum. The place that did the dyno tuning for Libertyville(i wont name names but its not the normal place they use in the south suburbs) came back and the car only put about 410 hp to the wheels. the shop says their dyno reads lower than others but 50 hp lower than what this cam makes on the lowest end is very significant(at least i think, again i'm new to this). also is it normal for the car to back fire when you get on it?? i got on it in first and it back fired and then got on it in third and it back fired.

i kind of want to take it to another dyno shop and have them throw it on the dyno to see what numbers it pulls. where is a good place, speedinc? straightline performance? Libertyville said they would refund the tuning fee if i take it to another place and it pulls the same numbers because they think it should be higher too but they also said i could take to another place and the numbers might be higher.

Dont sweat the dyno numbers... a dyno is just a tuning tool. Big dyno numbers dont always win races.. Bring it to the track and see how it runs... that will tell you what kind of power it is making.

Although the backfire is NOT normal.. Speed inc wasnt the tuner, correct?

speed inc not the tuner. i'm not going to say who because maybe their dyno was off that day for whatever reason. the tuner shop actually had an awsome shop when i stopped there with a lot of nice cars.

i talked to nick at straightline performance minutes ago. he said it's pretty low numbers for the g6x3 with the supporting mods i have. i'm going to drop the car off there on monday. they are going to throw it on the dyno and if its still low they are going to re tune the car for a fee of course. i just wish new lenox was closer.

maybe my car is just a factory flunk instead of a factory freak

i am really liking the MGW shifter Libertyville installed. very short, smooth shifts. as soon as i get this tune sorted out i will be in contact with pete to get some appearance mods done. hopefully the car will be back by the 16th so i can attend the meet and check out some hoods, spoilers, splitters etc..

I was shopping cams and those numbers are WAY off. I'd get it to a reputable tuner/shop before it goes kaboom.

Like he said... the dyno numbers are just a tuning tool. i have been on 2 different dynos and on different days on the same dyno and my numbers change.... it could also be fuel related..... i have seen issues when tuning a car if they fuel isnt right.... there was a thread (i think on NAGTROC) about gas stations being caught selling regular octane fuel as 93 octane... so i wouldnt sweat it too too much, but getting your tune looked at by a second shop is a good idea.... its like a second diag from a doctor. i know if you are just looking for big numbers i know of a dyno that is juiced....
Racing is my life, everything else is just minor details.

Not commenting on the non-Dyno issues. That's something a pro needs to work with you on..

On the Dyno stuff.. I've had my car in the same configuration dyno'd on two different dynos around the same time a year apart.

560/520 tire on one and 525/510 tire on the other.

As was said a couple times.. It's just a tuning tool and I wouldn't really worry about it.. Run and it check your slip.. That will give you an idea of what you're getting to the ground, how well it's getting there and how well you can utilize it.

Every dyno is different. Do you know if it was a Mustang Dyno? There are known to read low. As everyone says its just a number all that matters is if it is tuned correct. Did they use HP Tuners?

Straight-line didn't tune it? That's where mine was sent from libertyville. I can't say my car has ever backfired, that doesn't sound good.

not sure what kind of dyno was used but pretty sure it wasnt a mustang dyno.
i'm not going to say who did the tuning because i'm not here to bash them at all. i just think/thought the numbers were very low. eric said the tuner got back to him and the tuner says his machine runs 15% lower than other machines. so technically on another machine the car should be in the mid to high 470's to the wheels. and again every machine will be different

i do appreciate all the feedback. i dropped the car at straightline this morning. they are going to throw it on their machine for me and see what numbers it gets.
