  • Might be that time for a new clutch...

So it seems like every day my clutch is gripping higher and higher so it will almost be time to pull the trigger.

I'm looking for suggestions on a nice upgrade to handle 700+ Hp/ TQ. But still would like good street drivability

I was leaning toward the zr1 clutch assembly but recently heard bad things about it not taking the abuse well.

So any personal experiences would be great to hear both good and bad.

        Sure am... :-(

It's still hanging in there.... for now.

I'm just running a 9PSI Maggie.. The only twins in my car are usually in the passenger seat... ;-)

20,600 ish... Had the blower installed at 8,000.

Road America was rough on it... Qtr, not so much...

Trying to hit the lower 48 in the car. Knocked out 18 already and two countries.

              That's awesome.

I am just about to hit 20,000.

The slipping is getting really bad at top end and I feel like I'm waiting forever for it to engage. I'm hoping that swapping my fluid will help a little because it is looking a little dark but I know it's about that time.

Mine felt that way at RA. Felt like the engine was running away from the driveline.

It's ok now... but I've not been pushing it hard on the trips.

Yup that's exactly what I'm sensing. I'm sure if i were to baby it i would be able to make it a few more months but where is the fun in that.

i know your 5 steps ahead of me with suspension and other driveline parts, so have you decided on a clutch setup when that time comes?

Not yet. Still being a drive line troll on the other site lurking about. Seems like more and more clutched and parts not living up to the hype. Even slave cylinders popping.

thats exactly what i am seeing too.

I am almost thinking i would be better off just getting another stock one and getting another 20k out of it instead of investing $1500 in an aftermarket failure.

I've seen some that seem to last, but they're more than 1500....

Talk to Libertyville Chevy about it?

If its worth anything.... I had a SPEC clutch in one of my cars. It held great but was annoying to use as a daily driver. I ended up going with a LS7 clutch. Holds just as good and drivability is unbelievable.

SPEC was actually one That I was looking at. either a stage 3+ or there twin disc setup. I know that spec was very popular and durable in f-bodies, but haven't found too many reviews for 5th gens.

DO NOT GO WITH THE ZR1 CLUTCH!!! Mine lasted exactly one hard run... and I even 60'ed for crap, so its not like I dead hooked it off the line. 595 rwhp, 505 rwtq...
My new clutch should be here this week... Its the 4l80e type. Tired of wrestling with this M6...
