  • Cam question....

Ok so I am going to be talking to libertyville chevy this weekend about camming the camaro. Most likely putting LT's on it at the same time.

Ultimately I would LOVE to put some forced air into the camaro but I dont know when/if that will be feasible.

blower cam or not to blower cam?

    DISCUSS!

I would ask them that.... How serious are you about going blower? If you put in a blower cam now and it makes less power than a NA cam and you never go FI, you'll kick yourself.

When you go FI on the car.. Everything changes..

I'm very serious about getting it. I just cant predict tomorrow or anything like that you know.

Its not in the budget now but I will continue to save after the cam install and see where things go.

How much power would i be leaving on the table? We talking 5-10hp or more like 25+?

I haven't looked that deep in to cams for this car that are NA.. So, I can't say for sure and I don't want to throw around numbers w/o research... It's just stuff that I've heard from various dealers/installers and people on different boards.. Just make sure if you have someone install a cam intending on going FI later, that you discuss that with them in case there are characteristics like overlap, duration, lift, etc that aren't favorable for one or the other. I've been going back/forth with a blower cam in mine, but then I step back and remember my OEM clutch is showing some signs of not liking the power I have, along with my OEM wheel/tires not sticking as well or being as light as they could be.

The places that I talked to often told me to do a valve spring swap out over to a dual spring setup. There was also the commentary on going to 3 bolt over the single bolt -- I know none of this is truly NA/FI stuff only -- but, it's been thrown in there.. Even some of the guys running rougher higher cams have gone to the better spring kits and 3 bolt to help with some of the potentially self-destructive problems.

well obviously I want the power but at the same time I just want to hear that cam lope. Sound is a big part of my decision on wanting to cam before supercharging.

I want to keep everything as "safe" as possible with modding and will talk to them on Saturday about this. Just wanted to get some other opinions.

So you are still on the stock cam?

I'd like the sound, stronger valvetrain and better match up for my TVS.

But yes, still on oem long block.

Talk to Kevin at LCPC on saturday. He can answer all of your questions. They used a blower cam in mine and it made 472 RWHP on the dyno. Love the sound and the throttle response. I will be there if you want to hear it, look me up.

I did cam first drove car for a while then put blower on and am very happy. I personally don't see why not to go with a cam that allows you the option either way.

Blower can is the way to go, but you might have to change the exhaust, because the blower cam is a lot louder. But why are you taking it to the dealer for the work and not a performance shop? You might save a lot of $$ by having a performance shop do the work. And btw most dealerships take the cars they finish to a tuner shop for tuning.

Definitely would love to hear it. What exhaust do you have? What other mods for that number?

well from what I understand libertyville chevy either works with your warranty or warranties the work they do?

If I am misunderstood I will rethink it.

I wouldn't be against doing the work myself but I am trying to keep some what of a warranty on the car.

Because I have solo exhaust you think it would be too loud?

I guess your right about the warranty (if you want to keep it) And the noise is up to your liking. I switched from Flow master American thunder to Borla street exhaust, to me it's a deeper sound. What kind of SC are you considering?

Libertyville warranties THEIR work, and it will be the only place you can go to get coverage for what they modified unless they use GM accessory parts on your vehicle AND submit the required documentation claim in global.

I guess I will have to hear it. I have heard plenty G8's with headers and solo exhaust with a cam and I love the sound. But thats also only video's.

Also about the warranty. In my opinion I'd hate to get rid of a warranty. If I could buy a car without a warranty and take a few thousand off I would of but i take a warranty as an option we pay for either way. Would you buy optional wheels for 4k more when ordering your car if you were just going to get new wheels a few weeks later and sell them?

                              know what i mean?

Can't wait to hear it in person! Any video teaser until then?

So will THEIR work void my GM power train warranty and only their work will be warrantied? I dont want to say an example and jynx myself but I think you understand my question.
