  • What to do....

So it is about time to add a little more pep into the 45th.

I have about $1000 to spend but I just cant decide how I want to spend it.

CAI and Exhaust are what I plan on doing this year.

    Idea's

    1
    CAI
    Axle back

    2
    Solo cat back (now)
    CAI (later)

    3
    CAI (now)
    cat back (later)

I know people say to do a full cat back if I plan on future mods. Even tho I would love to mod the car further I dont know when/if I will.

    What do you all think?

I'm currently thinking Roto Fab CAI and Solo exhaust

I want that deep throaty sound with little to no drone.

Tough to get deep with a six. A j-pipe should help with drone. I'm trying to find an exhaust shop that can do these. I have an MRT 2.0 and drone is not bad.

Good CAI and axleback is a nice start.

I have heard of people putting j pipes on there exhaust I just think might as well go with the ones who sell there exhaust with j pipes.

Or, get a cat-back that garruantees no drone, IE. Corsa. More expensive but does sound great with headers. I have them if you want to hear it.

When choosing these parts are you going for looks or HP?

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my Track next fix.

We love our cat back Magnaflow! When our kids are in the back seat, they love the sound too. Not too loud at all!

Axleback is sound only. No performance othe than weight savings.

Catback will be minimal gains since mids aren't overly restrictive.

Cats and Manifolds are where you get most power.

CAI is good for the usual numbers due to better flow from removing resonantors and turbulence inducing textures.

Look for a good used CAI and your choice of exhaust. You'll save good money on it.

Ummm I can help you spend $1,000! Your car is already perfect, so leave well enough alone. So when can we go shopping?

Performance and sound. Is solo not guaranteed to be drone free? I know that was the best exhaust to get drone free for the G8.

I have not seen great deals on used CAI. Ordering right from Roto Fab I can get a CAI for under 350. If you see any deals I am missing feel free to send me a PM or list them here. I am on all the boards.

HAHA funny! Nice try tho. If i don't spend the money on the Camaro It will go into my house savings account. Hoping to buy one this year.

Corsa is the only one I know of that is guaranteed. With headers and a few hundred miles I think they sound great. They are not deep like Magna but still good.

I bumped the Jannety CAI comparison thread over on C5 in the bolt-on area for ya. Just take a look at the spread sheet on the last pageof the various results. Some are better than others. THen look around but call the vendors for their best deals. Both Maryland Speed and JDP Motorsports have good prices off the top of my head.

One idea is a CAI and a VMAX ported throttle body.. Then take the leftover money to save up for exhaust work. CAI will get you some HP and TB will get you a little HP and better throttle response.

Cat/Axle-backs are real personal since they tune sound. If you wanted to you could even save money by keeping the stock pipes and getting headers/cats and then an axel back for sound.

Of course if you do headers/cats then you get into tuning and that is a whole different converstion.

I don't have a V8, but Tbone's corsa sound is one of my favorites, for sure

For a grand go cai, axle backs and high flow cats ( may take you just over a grand). You'll get a little more punch and deeper and louder sound.

Yeah, I've heard that the cats are pretty restrictive.

So many idea's! T Bone I want to hear your car. I wish there was a meet sooner then the hooters one so I can hear more options in person. I really want to have an exhaust installed by then.

As for the Vmax throttle body, Will I need a tune with that? I'm kind of wanting to keep my warranty right now so headers and cats were not really an option. Maybe I will talk to my service writer and see what he says, pretty much will he work with me or not if I do headers.

I loved the sound of my G8 with headers and axle back.
