  • The header ban has been lifted!!!!!

Ok here is the deal, I can get headers but I need to hear someone's car who has one of the three brands of headers I am looking at so I can see if they are too loud for me & the BF ( both inside and outside of the car)... soooo is there anyone who has the following long tube headers installed....

    American Racing Headers
    Texas Speed Headers
    Dynatech

Also of you have had an experience with any of them let me know that too pleeeeease

    Thanks!

I've got Kooks.....I've installed multiple brands, and I can tell you 100% for fact they fit and install like a dream.

Another FYI, your fuel and spark trims are going to be off....in the lean direction. You'll need a tune...and that's going to void your warranty.

Why does that void the warranty? Is there anything she can do that will not cause that to happen and still get the headers?

You should retune the car after the headers....by altering the OEM tune, you kill your factory warranty ( ask me how I know ).

Can you run the car without a tune? In a word yes....but it's a risk. The car does run lean, and lean isn't the direction to error in with AF ratio.

Also, installing the headers without a tune doesn't give you the full effect of the mod.

My car came from the dealer with a Diablo Tuner that I have not tried to figure how to use yet. If I do use it, will that mess up the warranty?

You should be good, that tuner is part of the SLP package.

Your cat/axle back is going to have a lot of influence on the overall loudness of your car as well.. I went from SLP LM II to Borla Touring and it was a very noticeable reduction in sound (as several have heard), plus the cabin drone has pretty much been eliminated.. Before I had my Doug Thorley LTs, the SLP LM II was fine.. It was loud on the outside, but not too much drone inside... After headers though, it was like listening to a sub with 1 note playing all the time, hour after hour.

I would consider stainless steel if you care about longevity, and inquire with the manufacturers of the wall thickness of the tubing for your application.

I have read accounts on LS1Tech.com that ARH has a better wall thickness than Kooks, and the latter lets out more undesirable sound because of that. YMMV.

You might want to look into Borla headers. The performance tech at my Chevrolet dealer highly recommends them for their quality. They are pricey, but he says worth it. You really should get a tune if you install headers. I've always heard once you mess with the tune of your engine, your warranty is trashed. According to this guy, if he does the tune at their dealership, they'll stand by the engine warranty. I would want that in writing.

If you're looking for performance gain, headers and exhaust is the way to go. If it's just more sound you're looking for, install a nice exhaust and call it good. No question about your engine warranty that way.

                        Good luck on your decision.
