  • Quality mod friendly dealer

I would highly recommend libertyville Chevrolet for any warranty work you might need.
Those of you that have seen my car know it has a few mods. Nothing had been done internal engine wise but it had been tuned, cai, long tube headers exhaust, high flow converters and different plug wires.
I have had an oil leak on my car since I got it. I had dye put in it last fall at another dealer and now finally had it checked by Kevin at Libertville Chevrolet. The oil leak turned out to be the oil cooler which they replaced under warranty. I also had a lifter noise after the car sat for a long time. I had it checked at another dealer and they said it was fine and knew nothing about what I was talking about. Yet i still had the noise. There is quite a bit posted around the forums about this.
When I talked to Eric the service person at Libertyville Chevrolet he was well versed on it and knew exactly what needed to be done. They replaced the lifters under warranty with LS3 lifters. While they were there I also had them do a L99 to LS3 conversion eliminating the active fuel management all together.
In addition I also had them put in a new cam. I really had not planned on the cam but It saved me quite a bit in labor cost to do it since they were doing warranty work in that area already. The car came back to me with everything perfect and clean like they never touched it. My engine was spotless when i brought it in and Kevin took the time and care to keep it that way. I have only had the chance to drive it for a short time last Saturday, since I had to go out of town again. However so far really really happy with results. After Larry at speed incs tune before cam to speed incs tune after cam besides sounding great it Went from 366 to 424 rwhp and from 373 to 462 rwtq not to shabby for an automatic.

Nice, I didn't know those guys were mod friendly. That dealer is a lot closer to my house than where I bought mine I'll have to ask for Kevin if I want to get any engine mods done! Probably not going to happen any time soon, but hopefully I'll remember this thread!

Garrett, what exactly did they do for the L99 to LS3 conversion? Did they shut it off or change something because I had Speed Inc. turn off the AFM.

I'm sure there are more details, but I'm pretty sure that the hard conversion involves changing out the AFM lifters and the special cam for their LS3 counterparts, in and amongst programming required, etc

Yes there is more involved. There are 2 plates that are inside that have parts that keep the valves closed when the 2 cylinders are shut down. Those are removed in addition to the valve springs lifters and gears are all changed to LS3 parts. The cam was a custom grind comp cam recommended by that dealer for automatics. I wanted low end torque to get out of the hole but not to rough. Once they were done it went to Larry at speed Inc for the tune.

I would also highly recommend Libertyville Chevy. Kevin put a cam, headers & suspension parts on my car. 456rwhp, 418 torque. (Speed Inc did the Dyno tune) Kevin really knows his stuff. I race with midwestracing.net at Bryron. 4/16/2011 is our next race date, if anyone wants to come out & race the club members. (We pit on the far side of the staging lanes next to the line of trees.)

Good to hear, my first trip to my dealer resulted in me fixing my own problem and a door ding (no way I could prove they did it) that was fixed by paintless dent repair. Thankfully its perfect now and I was able to fix the issue on my own. I hate dropping my cars of at dealerships, just get that feeling that they're not gonna care for it the way I would.

I, like G-man, had a small oil leak from my oil cooler. I went to Bill Jacobs in Plainfield and they replaced the cooler under warranty. For me they were a great group and many were "car guys" as well and certainly took care of me. So for anyone in the Southwestern burbs, you may want to try Bill Jacobs in Plainfield on Rt. 30. Seems there are some dealers that will work with us which is a great thing. BTW, they were highly impressed with the work that Showstopper has done, especially the mirrors and painting.
