An axelback system is from the rear axle all the way back to the exhaust tips. Simply, it's replacing the mufflers on the car. It does give you a better sound, but not as different of an exhaust note as a catback system. Which replaces all of the system form the right behind the catalytic converters all the way to the tail pipes. They both do help your performance as well exhaust sound they both make the car more throaty. The big difference is the price. An axelback is the cheaper route to go between the two. That's what I have on my car and I really like it. The entire project only cost $600. And just as a word of waring do not touch your catalytic converters if you want to keep your manufacturers warranty. If you mess with those its over.

If you can find the type and mfg you want in a used form that's from someone reputable, do yourself and your wallet a favor and buy it from them... I've done that now with both the axle-backs on my Camaro and have saved myself close to 1,000.00..

You're talking about a part that's exposed to debris, road dirt, dust, etc.. So, you're not really going to keep them 100% spotless unless you rarely drive.

Plenty of people are selling their axlebacks.. So, check the different forums Used parts area before buying new.

(Edit -- wasn't paying attention and just saw the V6 location..) --- I can't comment on perf.. But, do see if you can pick up your choice used though..

HP gains are no greater cat back vs axle back on the V6 since its hard to squeeze performance out of the LLT. if you went with full cat back you may get 1-2 more horsepower than axle back, but in my eyes it is not worth it.

I have heard that the stock cats are pretty restrictive.
