    • Man, sad thing to see that its been almost 3 months since i have updated this... boy do i miss my car :-(

But I am hear to leave some possible good news.

looks like the wife is finally at a happy place with her truck, now that it is faster then my car currently haha....

SOOOOO... looks like the motor will be delivered next week. So i have about 3 days to make the final decision on where i am sending it because i have received a ton of great information from several shops. So my deciding factor is whether i want to stroke it or stick with stock displacement.... my choices are

      ERL Performance engines.
      AES
      Nickey Chicago

now this isnt a battle of who is better althogether. But who is better for my paticular build....

but we will see which way it goes as i am still on the fence, but extremely excited to get the ball rolling again... this is going to be a fun year. I gotta defend my title!

from what i am told, Nickey does do them in house.

And i asked them about your motor... he pointed to a group of like 5 engines and said somewhere in there haha.

ERL really is trying to push me on stroking the motor. Even said they will sleeve the block for me, but because of that and stroking it... the price goes up just a little bit.

AES is race proven, and i beat the crap out of my cars. So i know their build would handle and deliver like i would need.

Nickey shows great products and service time and time agian.

But i am thinking of taking a more serious "race engine" build vs a street car build. I want to keep it street friendly... but prep for down the road per say...

you still want in to help with the install of everything?

                  it's your car.

I can handle general maintenance and small item installs but nothing like you're about to do. In other words, I know enough to be dangerous!

                  • It seems scary, but it's all a big puzzle really. Once you start wrenxhing, it really isn't as bad as you think. I am always open to help or let other help that want to learn.

                    • Why ERL?

You should do a local build. What about Opel Engineering, or Tommy @ TNT? Tommy is up by Gurnee, down to Earth, does the engine in Mike Kostick's nitrous LS WS6:

                      tntracingengines.com

I think Eric the guy who does the engines for Speed Inc. is good for basic stuff.

Not to go off on another tangent, but are you building this for you or to showcase the kit for future sales? I don't think rear mount setups are as popular, no?

Tried Opel. His prices were a lot higher then others because he didn't do as many LS platform builds.

ERL was a referral from Camaro5. So i followed up awhile back to see. And they offered a sweet deal on a stroked and sleeved block. But I really wanted stock displacement which ERL refuses.

This is being built for me. If I were to do a kit I would look for a guinea pig interested in a build. I like how different the rear mount is too much to drop it at this point. I will be adding wastegates to my setup with an intercooler this year. And then I'm gonna push the setup as far as I think it can go.

And AES and Nickey both gave me a really good price and they both have really good reputations behind them.
I do really appreciate the feedback though.

                        • well i know its been awhile since i have posted an update, as we all know that progress is moving slowly.

but, i can report that my engine and heads are no longer in my possession and i will be shipping my flywheel and clutch back to mcleod this week for a little bit of lovin as well. They are going to rebuild my clutch with some customer upgrades to handle the future power. Great customer service and good group of people to work with BTW.

well thats all i have for now.

                          • soooooo i guess ill let the cat out of the bag now since race season is almost upon us (yay!)

I should have my motor back from AES sometime in April as long as all parts continue to come in. There has been a change of direction of what i ended up doing, and its hurting the wallet more. But id rather do it right the first time and pay now vs later... so here is a current list.

                            *stock crank
*Diamond pistons - coated skirts -10:1 CR - steel upgraded rings and upgraded pins
                            *callie H beam rods
                            *Clevite coated bearings all around
*ARP studs main, rod, and head studs
                            *LS9 headgasket
*full valve job, including upgrading rockers, pushrods, retainers, etc...
*stainless steel valves to help with the heat from the turblos....
                            *melling high volume oil pump
                            *dual timing chain upgrade
                            *stock cam hahah ;-)

                            then with the fuel department...
                            *ID1000's
*fore return style fuel system - dual 405lph pumps -8an feed / -8an return
                            *Demon Performance Fuel rails

                            then the boost department.
*Dual Borg Warner EFR turbos-size still pending-
                            *turbowerx oil return pump
                            *Tial Q type BOV.
*custom 3.5 inch thick front mount intercooler
*AEM Meth injections x two -450cc nozzles
                            *AEM Tru-boost- electronic boost controller

                            and lastly drivetrain...
*custom Mcldeod Twin disk RXT+ clutch set up (talked to them and they are making me a custom setup to handle the power levels i will be seeing. Awesome group to work with btw)
                            *stock tranny
*stock rear end (ZL1 conversion in the future)
                            *stock drive shaft

I really want to push the last 3 parts. We have some tricks up our sleeves to make em last so we will see how it goes.

so some of this stuff will not be done right away. my goal is to have everything listed above by june 1st. But we will see.

initial goal is to just get her back on the road by end of april.

any willing donations are welcome or sponsorships as well ;-)

                                One thing caught my attention...
stainless steel valves to help with the heat from the turbos
Stainless is a bad heat conductor. Is that the idea?
