TWIN TURBO CAMARO ON THE STREET
a little video my friend threw together

    ***IM BACK!!!!***
*** to make a long story short, in november of 2011 i was forced to trade my Camaro in to purchase a lowered priced vehicle to allow me to assist my family with an emergency that came up. On March 13, 2012 i was able to actually trade in the new car i acquired to get MY original project back. Boy was that dealer surprised when i came back to re-purchase my car. Now that i have her back for GOOD, i figured i should start up a journal on her. When i first got her back from the dealer they changed out my turbos and detuned her. She was pulling under 500 whp because the dealer wanted her most "streetable" because it was scary to drive before. So it had to go back to speed inc to bring it back to where she belonged as you see below.

    Current mods: 622 whp 596 ft/lbs of tq @ 8psi
    AES forged LS3 6.2L
    Diamond pistons 10.1 CR

    American Racing Torque thrust 20's
tinted side markers and tail lights
    Twin S561 turbos- rear mounted
    ID1000'S
LS9 MAP sensor for boost readings
    ZL1 Fuel pump +ADM FPCM
    tial 48mm wastegate
Turbosmart manual boost controller set at 8.5 psi
self tuned - help from Matt Sorian @ FSP
Mcleod RXT twin disc clutch kit
    Tick performance remote bleeder
Separate clutch reservoir (thank you randy!)
LG motorsports short shifter (thank you nick!)
    DSS 1400 hp axles
    aem water/meth injection kit
    IAT relocation setup

    futures plan:
    Return style fuel system
    Drag setup (again)
    ZL1 wheels (10 spoke)
    BMR bushing kit
    BMR springs
    BMR sway bars
    BMR lower control arms
    Basically BMR everything haha
I'm sure there will be more.

    heres a little timeline....

There was talk about a new "camaro" that was going to be debuted in the new transformers movie. As soon as i saw bumblebee for the first time it was love at first site. I turned to my best friend and said, "I don't care what it takes, i will own that car." The very next day I drove down to the dealer and asked how i could get one and they asked for a deposit and told me i would be the first one they would call when it would be ready to order. and sure enough in late 2008 i got my initial call to get my original order placed. The funny part was while i was at the dealer i was listing the options and costs of everything because of how much research i was doing. They still didn't have anything in there system and they were amused at how much i really loved this car. So my initial order was placed, BLACK ON BLACK 2SS M6 RS APPEARANCE PACKAGE, and then more waiting began. And after all of the quality holds and recalls she finally arrived on.....

June 1st, 2009- my "syck ss" was delivered...
i was the first allocation at the dealer where i purchased my car and was actually sitting at the dealer finalizing the paperwork because they were informed that my car was at the train stating ready to be delivered. But they didn't expect it to come for a couple days after the first. But as i was sitting by the window i saw the big ol trailer pull up and there was my car sitting there waiting for me. As the driver was unloading my car, several people actually pulled into the parking lot to take pictures of it. It was a good feeling and a start to a really nice journey.

first mod came 1 day later where i tinted the tailights:
I had already photoshopped several setups to see what i liked best and all blacked out was the way to go.

followed a week later by tinting the windows and emblems:
at the time I took delivery of my car i had license plates that allowed me to have tint as dark as i wanted on all windows.
So i took advantage of that while i could with 5% tint all around.

about 2 months after that i took the car in to get the rims powder coated and get the car de-badged:
Powder coating was cheaper than different rims and in all honesty i really like they way they look on the car.
We also decided at that time that the word "camaro" on the side should be removed.
    I like a clean look.

I am all about looking simple so after completing this step i started to save up for the real fun!!! a system consisting of two of these bad boys:
74 MM turbos- A friend of mine had a project he was putting together that he no longer needed these so i was able to get them at a steal. They aren't the best but they are a good start.

the next thing i did was order my custom plates. I didn't let too many people see them until the car was put back together. But it was easy for me to the pick because while my car was still new, the number one comment i heard out of peoples mouths was, "that car is sick"
so once again i like to be different and was never really that good at spelling in school so i felt "SYCK SS" was a perfect fit.

So i worked with one of my good buddies at his shop to build my setup.CM RACING our of MT prospect...

after several months of experimenting and thinking of designs, we came to the decision of running a rear mounted twin turbo setup.

This would give me the advantage of keeping engine bay temps down. This is one of the killers for performance with using both blowers and front mounted turbo setups, so we kept them as far away from the engine as we could. STS is a company that has been doing this for years and they have had great results from it so we thought it would be a good direction to start in. We weren't big fans of how they ran their pipes so we had to do it a little differently.

Chris from CM Racing, the main reason this was able to happen, is just pure genius. He was able to spread my exhaust approximately 6 inches to fit in a 3 inch charge pipe that travels down the center of the split exhaust as seen below. This allows for both turbos to increase the velocity of the air into one pipe instead of spreading it into 2. His welds are just amazing and his craftsmanship is the best i have seen.

This was the initial draft of how the final setup looked. It's as simple as cutting some BIG mufflers off, welding in some turbos, and connecting the dots. haha, i mean its kind of that simple. But due to the increase in air i also had to almost double my injectors to FAST 65# injectors, and install a KB boost a pump to make sure fuel pressure doesnt drop to low. I also installed an LS9 MAP sensor so my computer can read boost as well. Makes tuning a little bit easier. WITH THIS CURRENT LAYOUT I AM PUTTING DOWN 565 WHP / 560 FT/LBS TQ @ 8.5 PSI.

as stated in a later post, Due to having a little more power than stock my clutch couldn't take it no more. So i spent a lot of time talking to different people that have already run into the same issue. I kept hearing one name and one direction that was very consistent on their results for the 5th gen setup.
*****MCLEOD RXT TWIN DISC CLUTCH KIT*****
so i bit the bullet and called Tony up at speed and put one on order. I have never driven a car with a twin disc setup, let alone a clutch designed to handle up to 1000hp before so i was a little nervous. I have installed stage 5+ kits into my little imports back in the days of high school and i remember how much of a pain they were to drive. So i wasn't looking forward to this again in my 5th gen.

well i was very pleasantly surprised. I have put just a little over 100 miles on the clutch since installing it and all i can say is that it is amazing. The pedal is actually a little bit softer than stock due to the material that they use it doesn't require a super strong pressure plate. This is great for daily driving especially when getting stuck in traffic. It does take a little getting used to as it has the tendency to grip a little more firmly on take off so an occasional chirp from the tires is audible. I hear this will get better as the clutch is broken in though. It does state to drive the clutch for about 500 miles in stop and go traffic before beating on it to get the maximum performance out of it, so i will be doing just that. But so far the clutch is amazing and i am looking forward to seeing how it takes to almost 700hp beating it on the track. I will update once i get to that point :-)

              New Clutch

Well if you haven't seen my other posts you can see it here. My clutch finally gave out on me. but when you think about that fact that i am pushing almost 250 hp more than stock it was bound to happen.

After several hours of discussion and research i decided to go with a MCLEOD RXT TWIN DISC CLUTCH.

majority of the folks that have installed this are extremely happy with the streetability and overall grip it provides. Plus its capable up to 1000hp. So i still have room to grow and use it.

So within the next week i will be installing this as well as a clutch reservoir relocation kit (thank you randy) and a tick performance remote bleeder to allow for easier access to this. so i will update with more pictures and details once this the install is complete next week.

I was just wondering if the HOT SAUCE was some kind of secret ingredient to your new clutch system?

New short shifter- LG Motorsports Short Shifter

so i finally made the jump and picked up a short shifter. i went with the LG motorsports shifter for a couple of reason.

i was originally going to go with the ZL1 shifter assembly but after doing a little more research it turned out that the ZL1 shifter is only a different stick just like the majority of the shifters out there.

So i really didn't mind the shifting on the stock shifter just wanted something a little bit smaller. I was lucky enough to come across Nick on our website here selling his LG shifter which is the exact stick i was looking for. Only has a 25% shorter throw which is plenty for me. and the shifter itself is about 1/4 inch shorter.

So it took me about 45 minutes to install, which wasnt too bad. But the shifter feels amazing. I will never miss 3rd again. It feels like this shifter wants to just go into third. It does take a little more effort now to get into gears but nothing really to complain about.

overall i am extremely happy and finally hit the 500 mile mark with my new clutch and was able to get a couple quick shifts in and i can definitely see a possibility of lowering my ET by 1 or 2 tenths. hopefully going to the track this week so we will see! Thanks again Nick!

                        Nice!

Though, for what it's worth, the ZL1 shifter setup is the entire linkages, etc, not just the shifter stick.

Either way, so long as you are happy with it!

you do get the entire linkage, which is basically the exact same thing as in the SS. Nick 2K2 SS actually measured his old one and compared it to the new one that some one was breaking down and it ended up basically being the identical thing.

the major differences were the boot and the stick as you can see here.

The individual that took these pictures actually installed the zl1 stick and used the stock linkage and other components with the same exact results because it all was the same.

Interesting. Bubbles had the whole thing changed out. I was thinking that the bushings, etc would be different, too

Yeah I originally thought so as well. But after further digging it is identical. The throw is identical as well but the stick is just shorter which gives it the feel of being shorter. They did change the one bushing at the bottom of the stick itself to give it the firmer feel though. So it is still an improvement in that sense.
