  • Sub install! Who wants to help that knows how?

OK I have my Amp, new Sub box with 2 12's and my sound mat. I installed the sound mat today taking everything out of the trunk and I have to say, I am to old and fat to be inside of the Camaro trunk, but I fit in there lick a champ!

Now I got my Sub box in my trunk, don't ask me how.....OMG I should have went with 10's, the enclosure was 4 inches smaller and guess what, yep no Sh^t I needed it after the sound mat was installed.

Well I got the box in and now I need help with the AMP and wiring to the box and rear speakers.

Tony showed me his and I think the same setup will work. I hope so as I have everything I need except some electrical wiring.

So any volunteer's want to help??? Or at least guide me in the right direction?

You've got a 2 channel LOC, right? just need to splice in the amp turn on lead, and tap the left/right rear speakers for the LOC. power to the battery...

You know thats what Tony showed me too. I am just leery of splicing wires and such. The space I have to work with is tight lets say that....

Yes, but 4 channel with one side bridged at 900 watts for the subs and the other for the rear channel is at 450 watts. I am so going to blow up my rear speakers.... I looked at them and they are rated at 20 watts...lol Looking for a replacement set already..

Has anyone taken the cover off the rear deck lid?

Ugh. To get the deck lid out, you need to pull the entire rear out. Seat bottom, side panels, then deck lid.

For the wiring, make sure you have power (with fuse) and ground wires (maybe 6-10' each), two power distribution blocks, speaker wire, and some miscellaneous control wire. Depending on the LOC, you may also need RCA cables (individual wires-to-RCA).

I've attached a pic of my LOC with the turn-on relay attached (you can get both in one unit, but I was lazy). Also, I have attached the speaker wiring diagram.

You also need to plan on anchoring that box down!

only way around splicing wires is to see if you can find mating wiring connectors that would plug inline with the stock harness... I don't have the service manual that would have those part numbers, though.

I don't like splicing either, but as long as it is done properly, it should be fine. (no scotch-locks, etc) Strip a section of wire, split the strands, and wrap in your spliced lead. (strip a section of wire with a small knife by scoring around the circumference of the wire at either end of the splice, then split this section lengthwise with the knife) cover with liquid electrical tape, and regular electrical tape.

Where do I get the LOC and remote turn on thing? I don't want to run a wire all the way to the front of the car to ignition.

            I am assuming Radio Shack?

Any decent car audio shop should have it, but none of the big stores are likely to. You may need to order one via the interweb.

I'm guessing you don't have the Boston system with the factory amp?

Correct..If I had that I would be happy.... I am getting a different head unit eventually and the sound for the stock system is not so hot....

I like a little Bass in my music...lol maybe a lot more than the others here, but not so bad it drownds out everything else.

The BA amp is on driver's side of the trunk, rear wall. It's just for driving the rear speakers, so you'll need an amp for the subs. If your amp does not have a crossover, you'll need that, too.
