Powder coating vs. covers

Though, if thr the goal of adding covers is dust control, painting and PC both are ineffective.

It wasn't just for dust control. I wanted a "pop" of color. I clean the rims all the time

You can also change out your brake pads to ceramic...they dust much less than stock...

I got my calipers covers from and blove also got his. check out MPG caliper covers .com very easy install most time without removeing the wheels it so simple! they paint to your color you want and offer many logos too! MINE SAY TRANSFORMER, and are red they really pop with a yellow car. hope this is helpful to you. no dust issues with this product, and well worth the $

They weren't plastic. They looked like plastic. I got them from Chevymall.com and they are by MPG. I didn't personally see them on. The guy that installed told me they looked like crap and took them off. He suggested powder coating. Since I know nothing about powder coating, thought I'd get opinions.

There was another member I met at Deerfield tire & his looked great. Don't remember if they were plastic. I would think with plastic & being close to rotors they could get heated & melt. Did you buy from Chevymall? I looked on there & they range from 200-350? Don't exactly understand what the difference was between the 200 set & the 350 set.

FYI the member I spoke to said they were great & repealed brake dust.

I wondered the same thing about them potentially melting due to extreme temps near the brakes.

G2 paint is $45 and lasts a long time. I am not sure how $45 is a waste of money, when we pour thousands into these cars. That is sure a lot more affordable than powder coating, if you are on any sort of budget.

I like the look of the paint. I have a steady hand so I think I may go that route

If you go the paint route, preparation is everything. Do not open up the paint until you have the car jacked up, the tires off, the brake area cleaned and taped up thoroughly. Have proper lighting set up too. The paint sets rock hard in just a few hours. Use a good brush and have a small detail brush too. The entire process takes a few hours, but when you are done, it will look like it came that way from the factory.

I think Caliper Paint, Aluminum Covers, and Powdercoating are all viable options. Do what you can afford and will be happy with. I agree with the YouTube link and I would not put recommend plastic covers on hot brakes. However, the covers you purchased are alluminum and there's nothing wrong with them. I've seen them on many cars and think they look good. Again, do what you can afford.

I can't understand why the installer took it upon him/herself not to install your covers because he/she thought they looked cheap. Who does that? You're the one that should make that decision. They should have installed them like you asked and left it at that. If there was a safety concern, then they should bring that to your attention and let you decide.

Well, I think there's a distinct difference in paint vs the specific epoxy type caliper paint that is G2 caliper coating.
