  • Blacking out the SS - suggestions/advice?

Hey guys - snapped a pic of my new ride on Easter (beautiful day for anything cars! ) with a couple self-made enhancements I've done over the last month (attached).

So far I've used plasti-dip (economical) on the front/back ribbons (middle, not on the chrome), and just a few days ago went ahead with the wheels as well. Not shabby for less than $20.

I'm working on the black-on-black-on-black with chrome accents kind of look (within reason) and I was hoping for suggestions on the window tinting and tail lights.

    Windows:
I've heard 35% for windows all around (minus windshield) is legal in this state - does anyone have 35% all around? Pics to show so I can see it on a Camaro (or a good link)? I'm not sure I want to go much darker than that, but I can't be sure until I see it. Any suggestions on places to go, people to get a quote from, or good DIY practice? Not sure if I want to attempt the DIY project, but if it's not too bad, I'm game.

    Tail Lights:
I'd like some red seen - I still want to be safe (god forbid I get rear-ended because some old fart or distracted teen "doesn't see my brakes"), but I definitely want to smoke them out. I was thinking 50% smoke, since I already have the "RS" tint. Has anybody gone with a 50% smoke on the already-RS-tinted tails? Best practice (stick-ons or plastic pop-on covers) and good deals? I've seen packages for reverse light smokes too, but then again, that bright light is useful when backing up at night using the rear-view camera - this is my primary car, so I often drive at night.

Any tips/suggestions/comments are appreciated! I'm fairly new to the customizing world.

    -Ryan

Check out my pics on my page. I'm 35% all the way around now.

When it comes to tinting tail lights, reverse lights, side markers, etc. I ordered from bigwormgraphix.net and they came out great. These are stick ons. Easy to put on, very reasonably priced. I like the stick on look more than pop on plastic. Big worm has many different tint grades with a lot of pics to see what they would look like.

      ghosted lights

I had my tail lights and rear brake light painted and cleared at a local car customized shop. I got my side markers and led mirrors ghosted through showstoppers. All of the lights shine through brightly even during the day.

          35% all around here...

Also, the RS tail-lamps are not actually tinted. The inner housing is just black instead of chrome. 50% tint is pretty dark. Showstopper tints lamps a lot, so, shoot him a PM or email.

Thanks a lot - I think I'll go with the DIY for the tail lights then. Sick car, btw! That thing shines like crazy!

Thanks, TonyNo - I like the look of 35% on your car there. I really think that will work well for what I'm looking for.
