  • Stitching Dye

So after seeing how Garret dyed the stitching in his car when I had my winter tires put on and a few videos on the internet, I'm going to go forward with mine. Anyone here that has done it, have you had any discoloration, fading, rubbing off etc with the stitching? Any specific fabric markers you recommend? Looking to do blue to match the ABM.

I did mine in deep red. It only cost about $5 for the pens and a lot of time, close to 15 hours. I'll have to let you know the brand of pen (they had both regular and fine tip) later this evening when I get home. I liked this brand too b/c the ink just seeps into the thread which makes it much easier. I've had it for about a year now with no fading. Hope this helps.

Sweet! I'm just happy to hear there is no fading in the stitching, the process from what I've seen is to use the marker stitch by stitch and take a damp cloth and wipe after each one?

I used the Bic Mark It permanent marker. You have the process correct, one stitch at a time, letting it bleed into the thread and wiping with a damp cloth or paper towel after a few stitches. I didn't do the steering wheel yet as I wanted to see about fading too. So far so good.

I suggest taking off the arm rest as you can test a few threads that are covered to make sure you get the desired color. I had to try three brands before I got a deeper red. The others were too pink.

Good luck and post some pics when finished.

Oh Toasty, I'll post some up but it won't be until next
                week, out of town.

Wait until you're crawling around the back seat trying to color the thread. Lol
