  • Powdercoat wheels?

Hi guys, has anybody looked into powdercoating their rims? Here is a CGM with 'black chrome' powdercoated wheels. First, is there a place nearby that does this, and secondly what might the cost be for such a procedure.

    I think its damn sexy.

A few people have used CPC Powder Coating in Crest Hill. Cost was $80 per wheel.

Also Fox Valley Sandblasting & Powder Coating, I think he charges like $5.00 more but might even price match. There's also a place right near this place called Flatso's that will dismount and remount/bal tires for $15 each.

I met this guy, see attachment, at the Plainfield Tuesday night cruises and I saw, on a Bill Jacobs yellow Camaro, their Black Chrome wheels that looked pretty nice. I don't know what their prices are but here is their information. It might be something worth looking into if it is sturdier and lasts longer.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my Track next fix.

Black chrome is not powder coating. And its much more expensive than powder coating. The cheapest I have been able to find is the guy on C5 selling black chrome parts. Its 1250 for all 4 wheels, and then you get a 600 refund when you send him yours back.

If you find anyone that does black chrome plating out in the Chicago area let me know because I plan on having it done, but don't want to pay for the shipping.

Most places are now doing the PVD coatings for chrome and black chrome. plated wheel, thin coating of material, clear powdercoat overtop. Solves problems in regards to the illegalness of some of the chemicals used in traditional chrome plating. I had thought the stuff on C5 was also a PVD process.

Cool, looks like I'll be trying to find someone in the Chicago area to do some PVD coating of my rims. That black chrome look on my CGM is going to look sick!

Sweet! Maybe they will do a discount if we all get our rims done at the same time.

If anyone speaks to someone that can do this, please ask if they can do plastic, too!

Seems like only the coasts have guys that do plastic.
